Macular Degeneration, sometimes referred to as AMD (Age Related Macular Degeneration) is a condition of the central vision where the most accurate focusing occurs inside the eye.

As we get older, the cells in the macular area of the retina start to break down due to a combination of genetic factors and exposure to toxic injury.

Macular cells degenerate naturally as aging occurs at a rate determined by family history and genes. This process is often sped up by toxic injury to these cells. The primary toxic injury occurs by poor dietary habits, smoking, and UV exposure.

Eating right (or adding the proper supplements, or vitamins), not smoking, and wearing UV protection in your glasses or contacts are the best ways to protect yourself against this potentially debilitating condition.
