Astigmatism is a focusing disorder of the eye that is a distortion due to the irregular shape of the eyeball.

If your eye is not perfectly round in its corneal shape or in the lens inside your eye, then the light entering the eye gets twisted out of focus.

Typically, astigmatism is easily corrected with glasses or contact lenses that align their correction with the curves present in the cornea and lens of the eye.
